ROUND TABLE CLUB

BABY CAENIYAL

A successful bridge party was held at the home of Mrs. R. Caughley, Kelburn, in the afternoon recently and continued the same evening. The function was organised by members of the ladies' auxiliary of the fellington Children's Health Camp Association for the purpose of buying sheets which are urgently required at the Otaki camp. The sum of £14 10s raised included contributions from the players as well as from many wellwishers who were prevented from attending. Cosy fires in the dining-room- and drawing-room and a general atmosphere of friendliness contributed to a very pleasant function. The visitors were delighted with a show of early spring flowers, particularly remarking upon a bowl of stylosis used as centrepiece on the buffet table in the large reception hall, where there was a most delightful variety of home-made savouries, pastries, and delicious cakes contributed and served *by members of the ladies' auxiliary, Mesdames R. Caughley (hostess), G. R. Green, C. Vheeler, W. Hickson, C. Pinnock, and E. R; Myers (hon. secretary). Contributions were received from Dr. H. E. Gibbs, Mrs. Ackland, Mrs. Partridge, Mr. Byron Brown, Mrs. Roberts, Mrs. Hyde, Mrs. E. S. Hylton, Mrs. W. Hickson; Mrs. Cox, Mrs. Trask, Mrs. Broughton, Mrs. Fitt, Miss Eglington, and others. Those who booked tables were Mesdames W> Struthers, H. Thomas, J. W. Matthewson, Owen Campbell, Frank D. Clayton, W. Ackland, V. R. Gunn, H. S. McLaren, H. E. Gibbs, E. Partridge, Somerville, V. L. Palmer, J. A. Doctor, Jolly, A. J. Roberts, F. Davidson, Pulley, Wheeler, Misses Low, Jacobsen, C. Irons, Dr. Helen Bakewell, Messrs. Byron Brown, Sunstrom, Fisk, Eric johristone, Leslie Hutton, and Dobson. •

ANNUAL MEETING

The third annual meeting of the Y.W.C.A. Business and Professional Women's Round Table Club was held recently* The president presented the annual report, which showed that the club had made progress during its third'year of existence, a'number of outstanding functions . having been held in addition to the monthly luncheons and evening meetings. The following officers were elected: —President, Miss E. Fitzgerald; vicepresidents, Miss A. Bethel, Mrs. G. Harriss, Miss H. Batham, and Miss Harper; hon. secretary, Miss P. Madsen; assistant secretary, Miss J. M. Campbell; committee, Misses Toulson, Billing, Mills, and Mrs. Gollan. Miss G. Roberts was re-elected as representative to the National Educational Committee. Miss . Fitzgerald paid a tribute to the splendid work done by Miss Batham during the year in which she had held the office of president. Votes of thanks were accorded to the cafeteria committee, the old collegians, and the business girls' lyceum for willing assistance at luncheons and dinner parties, and to the Press for their helpful co-opera-tion. Miss Bridgman was also thanked for her willingness and untiring efforts to assist the club. Various matters affecting the operations of the club for the coming year were discussed, and the meeting closed after two musical items and supper served by the social committee. ■

ISLAND BAY EFFORT

The Island Bay sub-committee of the Plunket Society opened their baby carnival in St. Hilda's Hall in the presence of a very large number of mothers and interested ladies. Mr. McKeen, M.P., and Mrs. ~McKeen were the guests of honour, and on arrival they were presented with a dainty buttonhole and coat spray respectively by little Allison Power. Mr. McKeen, in opening the carnival, spoke of the wonderful results achieved by the Plunket Society in all parts of the world, and he exhorted all those present to help on the work of the society by assisting their local committee in every way possible. A. delightful musical programme was rendered by Mesdames Casserley, Ewen, and Duncan, and Miss Nora Greene; Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Dowling being able accompanists.' Mrs. McKeen then introduced "Princesses" Pamela and Marie, and "Princes" Peter and Lawrence to the audience, after which a delicious afternoon tea was served by the committee and friends.
