There was a very large attendance at the boxing contests staged on May 31 by the Wairarapa Boxing Association, which is to be congratulated on its excellent management, reports an exchange. Thanks to the keen enthusiasm of the officials, the Wairarapa, public was enabled to witness one of the finest series of boxing contests ever placed before an audience in the Wellington Province.
The chief bout between • "Kid" Fisher (England) and Em. Jacobs (Wellington) was responsible for much clever boxing. Jacobs (list 71b) was two pounds heavier than his opponent. Both boxers gave solid displays, and provided the audience with the type of boxing they were looking for. Eight through the contest there were plenty of willing exchanges and fast, clever boxing. Jacobs was eventually declared the, winner by the referee (Mr. G. Barr). Fisher made a splendid recovery in the last two rounds, and all through gave a very fine display Jacobs, however, proved himself a very hard proposition, with a good punch, cleverness, and speed. Prior to the start of the match, J. Ford, the Wairarapa and Manawatu middleweight amateur champion, issued a challenge to fight the winner in Masterton next month.
