SILK ARROW LIKES MUD

When Silk Arrow captured the St. Clair Handicap on the opening day of the Dunedin Meeting he had his third success on end, as he won a double at the Southland Meeting last month. He Was trained at Riccarton for his early racing, but though he showed promise, being placed a few times, he failed to pick up a.stake. He changed owners last year and scored his first success at the Otago Hunt Meeting in September. His only other wins have been the ■ two at Invercargill last month. Apparently he is suited by mud, as each of his stakes was secured in heavy Silk Arrow was bred by Mr. R. W. Franks. He is a five-year-old bay gelding by Arrowsmith from Silk Stocking, by Solferino from Silk Gown, a Pilgrim's Progress mare from Portia, by Bill of Portland from Happy Land, by Musket from imported Atlantis, who arrived in the Dominion carrying St. Leger, destined to be a highly successful sire. His present owner is Mr. W. D. McLeod, for whom he. is trained by T. E. Pankhurst at Invercargill. ■
