Father John Higgins, until recently vice-rector, at St. Patrick's College, Wellington, and director of Catholic social studies at Wellington, leaves for Canada and the United States in August to attend the Catholic University at Washington for the purpose ol further study in science and sociology, and to make fuller acquaintance with modern social problems.

The appointment of Captain V, O. Webb, marine superintendent of the Union Steam Ship Company,- as honorary commander of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Naval Reserve has been gazetted. ■
