PARAPARAUMU
A large number of members and friends attended'the June meeting": of the Paraparaumu Women's Institute. Mrs. Clarke (vice-president) was in the chair.
The usual amount of correspondence was dealt, with. ■ , , , i The guest of the afternoon was Mrs. Christie (Levin), who as Miss Chrissie McLean had been a valued member since the inception of the institute, five years ago. Regret was expressed at Mrs. Christie's departure from their midst, and she was asked to, accept a pretty bouquet'as a small token'of appreciation. . ■ .. ■
Keen interest was displayed in the demonstration, "eiderdown quilts," very ably given by Mrs. Brown. Tawa Flat. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. Brown. . ■ ~. One new member was elected. During afternoon tea, served by the hostesses, Mesdames Hughes. Tarrett, Batten, and D. Sweetman, a piece of wedding cake was kindly dispensed by Mrs. Christie to each one present The competition, "best decorated tin of flowers," was won by Mrs. Sheargold, first; Mrs. Hadfleld, second. A musical competition was won by Mrs. Cromb. i Community singing filled in the remainder of the time.
A vote of thanks was passed to the hostpsses. and the singing of "God Save the King" concluded a successful afternoon.
