WELLINGTON COMPETITIONS

The Wellington Competitions Society, which is holding its 1935 Festival from August 24 to September 7 in the Town Hall and Concert Chamber, has at> pointed Mrs. lan Cameron, of Masterton, as adjudicator for the National dancing section. Mrs. Cameron is well known as a dancing judge, and her appointment will be very popular. The original musical composition for the Bledisloe Cup, entries for which closed last month, has brought between forty and fifty entries, and these are being forwarded to Professor B. T. Heinze, of the Conservatorium of Music, Melbourne, who is the adjudicator.

The society anticipates that the entries for the general sections of the competitions will exceed the total received in 1933, which was 3661. The records for the past seven years show that in 1928 there were 2850 entries; 1929, 2868; 1930, 3093; 1931, 3099; 1932, 3482; 1933, 3661; and 1934, 2910. The entry total last year dropped owing to prize money being cut out, but this year prize money totalling £370 is being allocated, a substantial increase on previous years. Entries close with the secretary on Friday, June 28, and copies of the syllabus can be obtained from the secretary.
