WELLINGTON EEGIMENT
LOWER HUTT ASSOCIATION The annual report of the Lower Hutt Association (the Wellington Regiment), presented at the annual general meeting recently, showed that the executive had been very active in its efforts towards the furthering of voluntary training in the district. Campaigns had been conducted in numerous ways, producing, under the circumstances, fairly good results. It was realised how difficult a task it was to create interest in the volunteers because of the many and varied counterattractions, but the numbers were gradually increasing in the local company and a better spirit was noticeable. The chairman, Mr. J. W. Andrews (Mayor of Lower Hutt), referred to the success of the military ball held recently, and expressed the opinion that such dances would do a lot to help recruiting. He also complimented the local company on the excellent turn-out on Anzac Day and the local observance of the Jubilee celebrations. The bright marching at the latter parade was particularly noticeable. He expressed his thanks to the committee, the secretary, and the treasurer on the year's good work. The balance-sheet showed a fairly good credit balance. Officers were elected as follows:— President, the Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr. J. W. Andrews); vice-presidents, Sir Alexander Roberts, Dr. F. K. Bolt, Dr« A. F. Hickey, Councillors C. J. Ashton and J. Mitchell, Captain T. W. Slinn, and Messrs. D. A. Ewen, J. M. Carlson N. B. Gibbons, and W. Smith; committee, Mrs. F. E. Joyce, Lieut.Colonel C. E. Butcher, Captain G. J. McNaught, Captain K. J. Wells:, and Messrs. A. Grierson, E. T. McKain, and M. C. Redmond; secretary, Mr. K. R. Soward; treasurer, Mr. C. M. Hill; auditor, Mr. M. J. Power.
