TRIBUTE TO CAMPBELL

Mr. Hore Belisha, Minister of Transport at Home, -attended the British Racing Drivers' Club dinner to Sir Malcolm Campbell. :

"Anyone," he said, "who, like Sir Malcolm,- attains a speed on land not hitherto reached by man, enters what is in truth an unexplored sphere where he may meet dangers against which even the greatest care and foresight cannot provide. The Blue Bird, in Sir Malcolm's hands, is no mere machine, but an embodiment of the spirit of adventure, and of the genius of research. The results of his achievement would be felt for years to come in improvements in design and an increased margin of safety for millions of motor vehicles.

"There is no man who takes greater precautions than the racing motor driver. lam sure I shall have the support of this gathering in reminding the foolhardy that Sir Malcolm Campbell risked his own life in a great cause. They risk other people's lives for no cause at all."

, Note by "Autos."—Some people will feel a touch of irony in the fact that Sir Malcolm was among the first victims of the 30-mile speed limit in Britain's built-up areas. He was caught on a stretch of road he did not realise to be subject to the limit.

The fact that the clutch is a dryplate type.does not indicate that lubrication is unnecessary.
