WAIRAU RESUMING

The small wooden steamer Wairau, after lying idle for five years, is to commence trading in the WellingtonBlenheim run next week. The Wairau was once a regular trader in this service, and made her last trip from Wellington to Blenheim in May, 1929, and has been laid up since then. In 1931 the vessel was overhauled in Wellington in readiness to run in conjunction with the Echo during the fruit export season if an extra vessel were required. She remained idle, however, until May of that year, when she returned to Blenheim, where she was laid up. She arrived at Wellington on Thursday night, and went on to the Patent Slip yesterday for survey and overhaul. . The Wairau is to leave here next Wednesday for Blenheim, relieving the Echo, which is to be laid up for overhaul Miss Betty Manley, o£ Eastbourne, gained the highest elocution aggregate at the recent Eisteddfod competitions.
