The Australian cricket team chosen by Frank Tarrant for a tour pf India is to be captained by J. Ryder, with C. G. Macartney as vice-captain. In announcing that,he was definitely not going with the team, W..M. Woodfull, who, it was expected, would captain the team had he been available, said that there had been some misunderstanding, as he had previously intimated to Mr. Tarrant that he would not be going.

George Cook (Australian boxer) is to have another bout in London on Tuesday. His opponent will be Pancho Villa, an ex-amateur, who has so far won all his fights by knock-outs. Villa, who will be making his London debut, is 22 years of age, (ft 2in in height, and weighs 15 stone.

Asked by. Harry Hopman whether, in view of the superlative form he showed against Earquharson in a recent tennis match in Paris, he might reconsider his former decision, Borotra said that he would not play in Davis Cup singles in any circumstances. "I hope to play tennis for many years," the French player added, "and have no desire to cripple myself by playing in too strenuous matches. I might play if Davis Cup tennis were played on wood, where the rallies are shorter, but I could not possibly attempt it on hard courts, where the rallies are longer even than on grass. A lengthy struggle on the first day of a Davis Cup tie would spoil me for the doubles on the following day."

Plans are being made in Australia for a cricket match between the team to go to South Africa and "The Rest," to be played at Adelaide as a Riehard-son-Grimmett testimonial. Should the match eventuate, Woodfull .and Ponsford will emerge from retirement to open yet another innings in big cricket. Both have intimated that they would be delighted to play. Bradman is also to be invited. It is suggested that the match be played on October 18, 19, 21, and 22, or a week earlier. Bradman, by the way, has settled down to business in Adelaide.
