London Fashion Notes Specially Written for "The Post."

LONDON, April 5. Spring is in her most treacherous mood, and the battle of the Blues tomorrow looks as though it may be rowed in a blizzard. April showers have been a mixture of \snow and rain, making fur coats and firesides' very popular just now. The smartest furs are almost tailored in their simplicity, and this is probably why smooth furs are so fashionable. Short and threequarter fur coats are made both to fit at the waist, or to swing back on slightly swagger Jines. Simple turn-over or scarf collars are new and youthful, but not always becoming, and it seems a pity to have a fur coat that, is not definitely flattering. So unless you are the type that can wear a severely-tailored neckline I should stick to a softly draped collar, that frames the face. Actually the smartest fur garment is a cape, and as it looks as though capes have come to stay you would be safe in acquiring one, or remodelling an old fur coat into a short fur cape. The advantage of a cape is that it can be added to a suit or coat for extra warmth, and is adequate protection-on a mild day when worn with a, woollen, dress, a great advantage in fickle climates like • ours and yours. The cape of white or pale coloured fur is immensely popular in the evening, and these go to all lengths. At a recent theatre first night I saw three different lengths, in white fur capes in one "group, and not all of them were ermine. . ' , j Carefully-chosen, sheared white rabbit, which the French "call "lapin blanc," can put up a very good show, even-when it has, to rub shoulders with priceless ermine, and is one of the most successful imitations when dyed cocoa brown or beige, to represent summer ermine. Three smart outfits seen at the Kitz this morning expressed cold weather fashions with' this season's colour schemes. A jacket suit of. olive green woollen fabric, buttoned high in the throat with brown wooden buttons and a brown leather belt, and worn with an elbow-length cape of smooth brown dyed squirrel, was completed with a small Homburg felt hat in pale

yellow that matched heavily-stitched chamois gloves. A dolman cape of black lamb was worn over a dress of boldly-checked black and white woollen material with | a small cap of black lamb and a stiff eye-veil forming a brim. The touch of a third colour, which is chic this season, was supplied by red stud earrings and a red carnation fastened near the collar of her fur wrap., Very attractive was a beige woollen top coat with much trimming of brown nutria fur. This was worn over a dress of beige woollen that had a bold over-check in fine lines of red, and a very deep red belt. BONNETS, BELTS, AND BUTTONS. Bonnet shapes are having a greater success than the milliners ever anticipated, but they do want choosing with care. On the. right person they are charming, but some people who have misguidedly decided to wear them only.emphasise their difficult points. The outcome of this craze is the bridal bonnet, which consists of a bonnet brim of tulle or wired pearls standing out round the face in front

with the veil flowing from the back in clouds over the shoulders; under this, trim and tight round the race, is put a pleating of tulle or a close wreath of white flowers.'

Belts seem vitally important on new fashions. They can be as deep as five inches, if you are slim enough to rivet attention to your waistline, and are made of swathed silks and ribbon on afternoon dresses, patent and soft; leathers and suede on more simple' frocks. If the belt [ itself is' made of the same v fabric as the dress, then much attention is given to a striking buckle or clasp, which, in its turn, bears some relation to the decorative buttons, to be found on nearly all woollen dresses this season. Three coloured leathers in stripe are used to form a deep belt, and others have the tliree strips plaited. Plaited and knitted string in several thicknesses and many colours is another way of creating an : original belt. Others of deep- ~ coloured webbing • have a horse's bit in chromium as a fastening. ODD .JACKETS. The vogue of the odd coloured jackei retains its hold on.feminine fancy. II is an easy way to, achieve both change and chic. With a "dark brown dress will be worn a loose back, short jacket with wide sleeves and tight turn-over collar in some bold, rough woollen mixture in beige and brown. The third colour can be introdiiced by wearing <jark biown:sfcirt only, and a pale green or turquoise blue blouse. A plaid fabric in black, white, and red made a Norfolk jacket worn over a black woollen skirt with black hat, leather belt, and accessories. The choice of material and colour combination is usually the key to success with this useful fashion. RUTH SIBLEY.
