NEW PHOSPHATE STEAMER
During official trials in the Firth of Clyde the British Phosphate Commissioners' new motor-ship Triaster attained a mean speed of 13.8 knots. The vessel, which was constructed by Lithg'ows, Ltd., Port Glasgow, and engined by J. G. Kincaid and Co., Ltd., Greenock, is 400 feet in length between perpendiculars, 58 feet in moulded breadth, and 37 feet.in moulded depth. The requirements for Lloyd's Register's highest class, and also those of the Board of Trade, have been complied with. The Triaster will enter the Nauru and Ocean Island to Australia and New 'Zealand phosphate trade, and has accommodation for from 36 to 40 passengers. Owing to the exposed harbours lin which the phosphate ships load, i special appliances are required to enlable them to put to sea at-short notice.
