Mr. R. E. H. Baily has been appointed secretary of the Royal Empire Society. Councillor John Roberts, of Wellwood, Selkirk, a son of the ,late Sir John Roberts, of Dunedin, has been elected Prpypst. of Sekirk in succession to the late .Prpyost Ballantyne. He is the •fourth''member of his family to v occupy, the civic chair of Selkirk within.the past 70 years. He takes

a great interest in all Institutions lor the welfare of Selkirk, and is '-very popular.. He is a member of- the Buccleuch Hunt, and one of the prominent members at the annual Riding of the Marches ceremony. Two of his sons, Stewart M.; Roberts and George E.
