SNOW SOCKS AND CAP

Directions arfe given here for knitting socks with wide.turned-down cuff knitted in knotted stitch. These .and the cap complete the group of woollies for winter snowwear. .'."'■ .

Materials: Two '.ounces' rpd brush wool, 4oz white 4-ply, four No.-11 needles. , lOin foot, i ,

Directions.—-Cast on SO .stitches for the tops; work in knob, stitch (as previous directions) for'four inches, using the red wool. Change to white 4:ply. • Decrease by knitting 2 together every 14th, lgtli stitch in the, one row, leaving 84 stitches. Work on these 84 for 3%' inches in stocking stitch, then mark. . , . . for centre-back seam and knit 2 together, knit 1, . knit. 2 • to-: Bether, at this seam, finishing the row in stocking stitch every Gthrow, until there are only 60 stitches left. Divide for heel, putting half the stitches on the. front. needle and leaving half for flap. Knit on in stocking stitch for 17 rows. Turn the heel, knit 18, knit • -••.■■■ 2 together, knit 1, turn, and purl to within 12 stitches of' end, purl .2 together, purl 1, turn,-and continue taking one stitch before and one after the hole, then knit 1. turn until all the stitches are Pick up 17, each side of flap." CAP WITH NECK AND EAR FLAPS. This cap may be worn1 as shown in the picture or with the flap lowered down over the neck and ears. .
