LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION

WELLINGTON BRANCH

The annual meeting of the Wellington branch of the League of Nations Union was held in the New Zealand Educational Institute's rooms, "Evening Post" building, last evening. Mr. P. J. O'Regan presided. In moving the adoption ( of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. O'Regan said there were still indications and rumours of war appearing in the Press, and even in the picture shows; He thought, however, • that they might safely conclude that the temper . of mankind throughout the civilised world was decidedly against war. After a great earthquake there were always minor shocks and rumblings. The League of Nations Union had during the past year lived up to its ideals. . In seconding the motion, the Rev. Dr. J. Gibb expressed gratification at the increase in membership. The report stated that the Wellington branch of the.union had had a very active, year, i The monthly meetings of the executive had been well attended, and the! various- ,functions held had received excellent support. Membership had increased by nearly 100. Ah outline 'was given of the activities of the union. The council deeply regretted to record.the death during the past year of several valued members, including the Hon. Dr. W. E. Collins and Mrs. Macarthy Reid, Mr. G. G. Bridges, Miss Kent, and Miss Cate. The finances of the branch had improved during the year. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. • The following were elected officers for the coming year:—President, Mr. P. J. O'Regan; vice-presidents, Mrs. J. Henderson, Mrs. J. C. Andersen, Mr. W. B. Matheson; council, his Grace Archbishop O'Shea, the Rev. Canon P. James, the Rev. J. R. Blanchard, the Rev. W. S. Rollings, the Rev. D. D. Scott, Messrs. R: S. Maunder, H. H. Cornish, W. A. Appleton, a F. yon .Haast* T..A: Fraser, Dr. J. H. Beaumont, Mesdames Maslen, J. O*Leary, T. B. Strong, L. S. Watson, Israel, Lindius, Misses Kane, Morgan, and Stiles; hon. treasurer, Mr. P. Kennedy; secretary. Miss M. E. P. Ahem. - Votes of thanks were passed to the hon. treasurer and to the hon. auditors (Messrs. Henry Kember and Son).
