JUBILEE "SINGS"

Arrangements are .now practically complete for the two community sings to be held in the Town-Hall next Saturday, as part of Wellington's celebration of the King's Silver Jubilee. Both functions have been organised by the Smith Family in conjunction with the Mayor, and all proceeds will be ex--1 pended by the Mayor's: Relief Commititee and the Smith Family to provide winter necessities for women and children in need. In the afternoon a "sing" for the children of the ■ Wellington schools will be held, ari'd^in the evening the function will lake the form of a national Jubilee sing, comprising the most popular songs.-of the period of the King's reign (1910-1935). The song leaders for the occasions will be Mr. Alan Brown, the popular songleader from Christchurdht ■ and Mr Will Bishop, the well-known entertamer. Madame Elsa ,: Stralia, ■ the famous operatic star, will be the' principal soloist for the occasion. Features of the "sing" will be -songs of the war period, led by a strong contingent pf returned soldiers, and popular ballads with grand organ accompaniment by Mr. L. E. Strachan.' Mr. Frank Crowther will be the pianist. An invitation has been.extendedlto all the local musical societies to fqnh a massed choir to lead the singing, and it is hoped that over five hundred voices will be available. Returned soldiers who desire reservations wfth the soldiers' chorus are requested >to notify Secretary Smith, telephone 42-322. The box plan will be open af the D.I.C next week.
