CANDIDATES' SPEECHES
MISCELLANEOUS POINTS
FOOTPATH OBSTACLES,
Mr. A. W. Croskery, Labour candidate for the City Council, speaking at Brooklyn, drew attention to the manner in which city footpaths are mutilated where motor garages are built. "This is tne only city in the Dominion, as far as I can see," said the candidate, "in which the footpaths .are broken to allow ,of motor-cars running into garages, and whoever is responsible has created a'real danger to the community. It is no 'uncommon thing to see women and children. thrown down as a result of these broken paths. In most other towns, the method adopted is to keep the footpaths as clear of any breaks as possible, and in order to do this what are known as 'bridges' are placed to allow motor-cars to run into garages, etc. This would appear to be a far more sensible method than the one which, is being adopted in this city."
