Mrs. S. B. Blake, the Petone Labour! candidate for the Hospital Board' pointed out' last' evening that the per' capita expenditure on hospitals, etc.,! had been reduced by 20 per cent, since! 1930-1931. This reduction had" been1 made during a period of unprecedented hardship and suffering. If it i-epre- i sented savings or elimination of waste she would be the first to 'support it, but if the saving was made at the expense of mothers, children, andothers who could not afford to pay the charges, it was criminal. She believed' that those who' needed medical or nursing attention should get it
