HUIA CLUB

< A LARGE MEMBERSHIP

The Huia Club has again a very large membership this year, and has entered six, teams in. the competitions. The senior tearn:is>the same' as last year's, with the exception ■ qf" Milien arid ■ McDonnell, both of whom have been transferred from Wellington. However, .the places have been filled by two lower grade players who have already shown great promise, Cotter on the right wing and Marshall in goal.. The team is comprised of young and .very fit players and should once more give a good showing.. • .-.-■'-■■•■ ; The senior B team on paper reads very well and should show to, more advantage than last year. .

Two. very well balanced junior teams have.been.entered, one being made*up solely of players who have been in the club's intermediate teams in the last three years. This team is regarded as the colts' team and will be followed very closely by the older members of the club.

The third grade and intermediate teams are fairly good and should both go a long way. The club is again training under the able Mr. Alf. Jenkins, who has in past seasons always put the teams on the field in a very fit condition. A very pleasing feature of the senior team'is that their old coach, Mr. L. S. \P. Butcher, is once again with them.

Mr. J. L. McAlister, a well-known figure in hockey over the last twentyfive years, has at last decided to hang up his. stick and boots and retire from the active list. The club is sorry to lose him as an- active player, but still retains his invaluable services as club captain. The success of this club is due in no small measure .to "Mac," owing to his great interest in the intermediate teams. A'feature that bears this out is that in the three - top teams. there are onlyysix out of 33 players who have not' started with the club as intermediates. , , ' ,
