BUSY SEASON

By "Trail-layer."

WELLINGTON CENTRE

MANY ACTIVITIES

The harrier season is going to be a busy one for those entrusted with the management of harrier affairs in Wellington. An indication of this was | the amount of business put through by the harrier sub-committee at a recent meeting. As a result of complaints made to the Wanganui Centre, a great deal of correspondence has passed between the two committees regarding the hording of the marathon race, during the national athletic championships, but the matter is still unsettled."

The course at'Lyall Bay, which was chosen by a representative •committee, including the club captains of all the local clubs, was adopted by the harrier sub-committee after a great deal of discussion. Some of the delegates contended, that. the more strenuous course should have been adhered to, but as there is not likely to be any hills as: long and as steep as those on, the well-known Vosseler course, the test would be inclined to be more favourable to the slower but stronger men; The:new course, which is a two-lap one, circling the airport and golf links, has a . good • variety of country and road, and gives the spectator an opportunity of watching the progress of the event. Now that the matter is settled, there is no.doubt that those clubs whose opinions .'differ with regard to the suitability of the course will join with the majority in arranging a firstclass meeting for the national championships.
