OTACO CHAMPIONSHIP

DUNEDIN, April 21,
The Otago Rifle Association's Easter prize firing was continued on Saturday. Weather conditions were excellent for the greater part of the day and the shooting in consequence showed a decided improvement on tbe first day's results. There was very little wind, but the light was unfavourable during part of the day. The service match was won by Kiileman S. L. Wells, of the Kiwi Defence Rifle Club, with 54 points. The Otago match, 300 yards, was won by DeputyPresident F. W. Clayton with a score ot 49, and in the North Otago match, 000 yards, the first prize was divided between President J. R. Forrest, of Dunstan, and Rifleman D. I. Grant, a tyro of Oamaru, with a score of 49 each. x The winner of the Otago Championship was Deputy President Clayton, of the Kiwi Defence Rifle Clujj, with a score of 278 points out of 300. On the first day he scored 47 at 300 yards range, •15 at 500 yards, and 45 at GOO yards. • On Saturday his score was 49 at 300 yards. 46 at 500 yards, and 40 at 000 yards. R.unners-up in the championship were 'Rifleman R. Ure, of Jnvercargill City Guards, and D. I. Grant,,of Oamaru, both with a score of 274. The latter marksman, who shows promise, also won the Tyro Aggregate with the same score, 'The Junior Aggregate was divided by Rifleman J. A. Cowio, a Dunedin High School boy, and L. C. Vient, of Cromwell, each of whom scored 2GI. Cowie shows special promise as a. marksman. The champion teams aggregate, five men aside, resulted as follows: —Christchurch Defence Rifle Club, 1328; Dnnedin Defence Rifle Club No. 1. 1321; Kiwi Defence Rifle Club No. 1, 1318; Invercargill Defence Rifle Club, 1317. The interprovificial teams match, 10 men aside, was won by Canterbury, 1348. with Central Otago, 1315, second.
