STRESA CONFERENCE

VIEW OF BRITISH POLICY

LONDON, April 9.

Newspapers throughout Europe emphasise the growing importance of the Stresa Conference in view of the presence there of the three' Premiers, Mr; Mac Donald, M. Flandin, and Signor Mussolini, which assures that decisions can immediately become effective. The "Daily Telegraph's", diplomatic correspondent says that Mr. Mac Donald and Sir John Simon will be accompanied by Viscount Cranborne and Mr. William Strang, Counsellor in the Foreign Office, who was with Mr. Eden at Moscow.

The political correspondent of the "Daily Express" states that Britain will propose a pact for the limitation of military aircraft, including a clause for military assistance in the air.

The "Daily Mail's" political correspondent says that after a meeting of Cabinet, Sir John Simon discussed the situation with Dominions representatives. The Cabinet discussions indicated Strong opposition to the encirclement of Germany. It was maintained that Europe should not be diivded into two camps. Cabinet's Stresa plan urges the immediate conclusion of an air convention including Germany. If agreement is unobtainable on this, Britain would be prepared to accept a convention for the sole purpose of, limiting the number of military machines possessed by individual Powers.

The conferen.ee will meet at Castle Borromeo, perched on the height of Isola Bella Island in Lake Maggiore. Journalists will not be allowed to visit the island during the conference.
