TESTS IN BRITAIN

REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH

The British Minister of Transport recently issued his new regulations for motor vehicle driving licences, and the compulsory examination of new drivers. By giving notice in the "London Gazette" he is enabled to put them into operation after 40 days, but it is not expected that his staff of examiners will be organised before April next. The driving tests have been somewhat modified since they were first outlined in August. Firms employing more than 250 drivers, the Post Office, and the services, will be empowered to examine their own drivers. The list of disqualifying diseases and physical disabilities has been amplified. The right to be examined is denied to anyone suffering from mental disorder, epilepsy, liability to giddiness, fainting fits, inability to read a number plate at 25 yards. In the driving test itself, the applicant must prove that he is fully conversant with the contents of the Highway Code\and that he is able unaided to pass nine practical tests in driving.
