ECONOMY ESSENTIAL
DUNEDIN WATER SUPPLY
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
' ■ DUNEDIN, January 30. Stating that ho shuddered to think what would happen if the storage were not greatly supplemented very soon, Councillor "VV. Begg, chairman of the water committee, drew attention at the meeting of tho City Council tonight to the urgent need for -economy in the uso of water. The present storage was stated to be- 80 million gallons, and Councillor Begg also pointed out that the imposition of restrictions had reduced tho daily consumption from 5,000,000 gallons in November to 3,892,000 at the present time. Tho difficulty was that the reservoirs did not have to fall much lower to reach the point when danger to tlio public health might result. There was also the probability of the reservoirs being inadequate for fire fighting.
