NO DEBT ON HOSPITAL'

At the Queen Victoria Hospital, for Women, in Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, a children's ward has'recently been completed, states an exchange. It is decorated in a manner quite unusual in hospital wards, but which should prove delightful to the- little patients, who, on the walls, may follow the adventures of the water babies which, decorate the walls. The average number of babies at the hospital is about '70; and a double-decked baby carriage transports them from one part of tho 'building to another. There arc eight resident medical officers, all women, and the only male doctor called upon for consultation is the professor of obstetrics at, the Melbourne University. Tho hospital is run entirely for women by women, and is never in debt for maintenance. The- new building* have been built from unemployment relief subsidies. There aro also an intermediate and a private hospital, where private patients may have their owa doctors, and may pay from £3 3a weekly for their accommodation. Modern colour schemes have been employed in the new nurses' quarters, and tho bedrooms are decorated in soft shades of pink and green.
