WEDDING GIFT
The senior twelve Livery Companies | of the City of London gave the Duke and Duchess of Kent a set of six Queen Anne walnut chains as a wedding 'present. The chairs, of a very unusual design, were those admired by the Duke when he recently visited one of the best-known art dealers in the West End. It was when ■ the Livery Companies .heard of this that they decided that tho chairs would make a gift after the Duke's own' heart. Tha Duke of Kent has much of the Queen's flair for rare and beautiful old English furniture, especially of the period; of Queen, Anne, when craftsmen took pride in. patient labour. When expressing nisj admiration for the chairs, the Dukt. ol'\ Kent at once discerned the Very ■ un-; usual design of the front feet. The owner of the set, Mr. Frank Partridge, released the chairs on condition that he was permitted not to- make any profit whatever on the transaction, the back legs of the chairs are of a dignified sturdiness capable of sustaining any surprise in the form of weightiness.
