EGG MARKET FIRM
The egg market in Wellington is firm at present find prices are gradually rising, the wholesale price for first grade being now Is 4d per dozen. ■ A fur.ther sharp advance in the -wholesale price of. eggs occurred in Auckland on Monday, when values rose 3d a dozen. This follows an advance of 2d a dozen in first-grade and Id dozen in other grades last Thursday. The values now ruling are as follows:—Hen, first grade, Is 5%d a dozen; B 'grade, Is 3%d; C grade, ll%d; duck1, Is 2%d, Is l%d, and ll%d. The rise is due to a general shortage. On account of the hot weather birds are beginning to moult already, instead of about March, as is usually the case. Supplies of green feed, insects, and grubs also are curtailed, and this is having an effect on the yield. On the other hand, pullets, which do not usually commence laying until about the end of February or March, are already coming into production, consequently the shortage should; not be prolonged. . ■ :.'■.'•■■
