IRENE WINS THE RACE

HALF MOON BAY, This Day. Tho Open Championship race for 14ft yachts was sailed in Half Moon Bay this morning. Three of the provincial representatives, the Irene, Monica, and Evelyn, and tho Stewart Island boats Rona and Murihiku II competed. The first prize is a silver cup donated by Mr. F. Biggs, president of tho Southland Yacht and Power-boat Association.
. The race was sailed in ideal weather conditions and tho results wero as follows:—lrene 1, Monica 2, Rona 3. The Canterbury boat was well handled throughout and won by 2| minutes, with tho Rona- about 5 minutes behind tho Monica, -.Then came the Murihiku II and .Evelyn in that order.
Mr. E. Sinclair, skipper and owner of the Canterbury boat'lrene, stated definitely this morning that he has sold his boat to Mr. Biggs. Tho Irene will be taken to Tnvercargill and will be a possible Sanders Cup contender next yeai.
