APPARENTLY SAFE SEA
SEARCH FOR MAN

WANGANTJT, January 29.
An apparently safe sea at Castlecliff today developed into a strong undertow, and it is feared that a drowning fatality occurred this evening. The police are now searching for a young man named Beaton,.who. is believed to have been washed to sea between the north' mole and the remains of the wreck of the vessel Cyrena. The alarm was sounded on the. beach at about 7.30 tonight, when it was discovered that five women were in difficulties.! Prompt action by the surf section re-1 suited iii their being brought ashore. Mrs. K. Baker, of Lower Hutt, was ad-1 mitted to the Wanganui Hospital suffer- ; ing from shock, and Miss A. Mulhol-I land, of Wanganui, was in a state of collapse when she was taken from the water, but responded to artificial respiration. 'Miss P. Wright, also of Wanganui, and two others in the party required assistance. It is believed that Beaton was, also caught in the outward rip of the tide and was lost before assistance could materialise. ' , Mrs. Baker's condition is not serious.
