NOTABLE AGREEMENT
PRODUCTIONS FOR THE YEAR
An event of great importance to filmgoers is the agreement made by FullerHay ward Theatre Corporation, Limited, John Fuller and. Sons, Limited, and W. B. Kemball, Limited, and their associates with the well-known Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, whereby they will screen exclusively all the pictures from that company. The Wellington theatres concerned in this agreement are St. James, Majestic, and De Luxe Theatres. ~ ~ The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios have always been renowned for the large number of outstanding players who are seen, in their productions. Among the best known are Norma Shearer, Greta Garbo, Charles Laughton, Wallace Beery, Lionel Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, William Powell, Myrna Loy, Maurice Chevalier, Robert Montgomery, Fredric March, Franchot Tone, Lewis Stone, Madge Evans, Ann Harding, Helen Hayes, Herbert Marshal^ Laurel and Hardy, Jeanette MaeDonald, Marion Davies, Loretta Young, Maureen O'Sullivan, Jackie Cooper, and many others. Wide variety will also be a striking feature of the forthcoming productions. For instance, drama cornea under seven different headings—romantic, comedy, outdoor, mystery^ historical, aviation, and marine. '
That the musical production is coming into its own once more is exemplified by the inclusion of: such outstanding successes as "The Merry Widow," an Ernst Lubitsch production with Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald, which has been produced and will be separately released, and' the colourful operetta, "Babes in Toyland" (Laurel and Hardy). What should be one of the best dramatic films of the year is "The Barretts of Wimpole Street," with Charles. Laugh ton, Norma Shearer, and Fredric March, opening at St. James Friday next.
: Outstanding in the field of classical pictures will be "David Copperfieldi" with a particularly strong cast, including Lionel Barrymore, Frank Lawton, Herbert Mundin, W. C. Fields, Edna May Oliver, Maureen O 'Sullivan, and Lewis'Stone. Others in this/class are "Vanessa," with Helen Hayes "and Bobert Montgomery, and "Marie Antoinette," with Norma Shearer, Charles Laughton, and Herbert Marshall.
Greta Garbo will be seen in "The Painted Veil," and Joan Crawford and Clark Gable in "Forsaking All Others." Miss Crawford will also appear in a, musical comedy, "Reckless," with William Powell. Those who enjoyed "The Thin Man'' will be pleased to know that the popular William Powell and Myrna Loy will be seen in a sequel, "Evelyn Prentice."
Other brilliant films will be "The Night is Young" and "Love While You May" (Robert Montgomery and Evelyn Laye), "Town Talk" (Clark Gable and Constance Bennett), "Spoiled" (Jean Harlow), "Mutiny of the Bounty" (Wallace Beery, Clark Gable and Eobert Montgomery), "WestlPoint of the Air" (Wallace Beery and.Franchot Tone), "The Vampire of Prague" (Lionel Barrymore), "Indo-China" (Joan Crawford), "Piccadilly Jim ", (Robert Montgomery), and a sequel to "Tarzan and His Mate," with Johnny; Weissmuller and Maureen 0 'Sullivan.'
