STATEMENT BY MR. FORBES
' (By Teleffraph—Press Association.) CHEISTCHUECH, This Day. "No request of any kind was made by Sir Maurice Hankey when he conferred with us a few weeks ago," stated the Prime Minister in reply to, a question as to whether the Secretary to the Committee of Imperial Defence had asked while in.jN'ew Zealand for the rcinstitution of compulsory military service or for greater armaments expenditure. Mr. Forbes saiil that Sir Maurice Hankey mat Cabinet at a speciallyconvened meeting, and all that took place was that the steps taken by New Zealand in the past year -were clearly stated to Sir Maurice, who expressed himself as satisfied with what he had heard. Ho made no request of any kind at all. "
