UNIVERSITY PLAYERS The members of. the New. Zealand University tennis team who have been playing matches in Sydney and Melbourne—Messis. 11. A. Barnett, B. A. Barrer, B. A, Young, and J. J..McCarthy—icturned to Wellington yesterday afternoon by the Monowai. The team won none of their matches. They played Sydney University, a Now SouUi Wales side, and Melbourne University, and' weio to have played a Victorian team, only no com Is wore available. Speaking to a "Post" representative, Mr. McCarthy said that the team had met playcis of goodi calibre,1 whose volleying and smashing were ■ the chipf feature. They went for ,their shots all the time. While in Australia they had seen the international players in action. Although in Australia the1 opinion- was held that Perry 'would win the 'Australian singles title, he thought' that Crawford would be the winner". .Crawford 'was 'playing marvellous'jtennisf and it really had to be to be believed. J ' , The c,ourts on which^ the team played' in Sydney and Melbourne wore not as hard, and* as fast as they had expected, but that, said Mr. McCarthy, was duo, he thought, to the heavy raip ' and storms that had been experienced. The team had been away since December 13.
