TO MEET THE DUKE

COMPLETE ARRANGEMENTS

■ Complete- arrangements have been made for the children's demonstration to the Duke of Gloucester at New-town Park . next Tuesday. The . organising secretary, Mr. E. S. Hylton, supplied particulars to "The Post" today. Units represented at the assembly will-be public primary schools, secondary, schools, technical schools, private primary and. secondary , schools, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, Junior Pied Cross detachments, St. John Ambulance cadets, Boys' Life Brigade, and Girls' Life Brigade. Each college or school unit is roquestod to appoint a marker who will carry Ihe shield with the name of the college, school, etc., painted on it. The shield is being -provided by the demonstration «ommittee without charge. These markers are requested to be in attendance at Newtown'Park at 0.15 a.m., and report to: the marshal, of their block. All school identification shields will be available to the markers on the parade ground. Schools may enter the parade ground frnm 9.30 aj». to 10.30 a.m. All schools should- be .in position at the latter hour. • .

In order to avoid the fatigue of stand-. ing for any long period the. marshals are 'asked, to use their judgment in allowing the children of tl\eir p block to sit. It is suggested that primary school children should sit during the "March Past" of the secondary Fchnols.

On arrival ot' the puke on the dais the massed bands wftl play the National Anthem, and during the playing all children will stand at attention, and standard bearers with flags dipped.

Pupils of the secondary and technical colleges, together with the Scouts, Guides, and • members *of the St. John Ambulance . Brigade,. Boys' Life Brigade, Junior Bed Cross and Girls' Life Brigade, will march past in fours aud salute the Duke, and standard bearers will dip their flags. Primary school children will maintain their position during this ceremony. The order of marching will be as follows:—

Wellington College, Eongotai College, ■Wellington Girls' College, Wellington East Girls' College, Marsden School, St. Patrick's College, Petone Technical School, Hutt Valley High School, Wellington Technical College, Queen Margaret College, St. John Ambulance Cadets, Boys' Brigade, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides* Junior Bed Cross detachments, Girls' Life Brigade.

TIRST-AID AND LOST CHILDREN.

Members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade will be on duty, two members "being assigned to each block. An ambulance station will be on the ground to deal with first-aid cases.

Accommodation Trill be provided for

children who become separated from their parents or teachers. Children should be instructed to report at that place in the event of their becoming lost. The building or tent will boar the sign "Lost Children." Mr. J. K. Edio is in charge of the combined singing, and will issue particular directions to all units. THE PROGRAMME. The following will be the programme at the park:— 1. Massed bands will'play six bars of the National Anthem on the Duke's arrival on the dais. (No singing.) 2. Singing of .the ode, "God Defend New Zealand" by the school children, accompanied by massed bands. Leader, Mr. J. K. Edie. 3. March past and salute by secondary and Technical College pupils, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, St. John Ambulance Cadets, Boys' Life Brigade, Junior Red Cross detachments, and Girls' Life Brigade. (Bands to ■ lead and play march music). i. Review of school children by the Duke. (Bands to play suitable music). 5. Address to the school children by the Duke. '6. Singing of the National Anthem by the school children, accompanied by massed bands —leader, Mr. J. K. Edie. (Boys should be instructed to remove their caps.) - CHILDREN'S DRESS. It has been suggested that the children of the'primary schools should be recommended to dress as follows:— Girls, white; boys, white shirts and dark shorts. The" committee, however, does not want parents to be put to any additional expense in connection with this matter. '

The rations marquees will be at the north-eastern end of 'the ground. Hygienic drinking cups will be provided for. the children, so that there will be no necessity for them to bring their own utensils.
