IMPROVING HIS MIND
i A distinguished Biblical scholar, Dr. lames Moffatt, has given rather a smart slap-to our pride by informing us: /New Zealand has always been famous to me t through its Maoris, its Rugby, and i£s trout. I , don't know about Us theology." We certainly take pride in the three 'claims to fame mentioned, but we I have been .inclined to think that we l had other claims also. Coming from the land of the New Deal Dr. Moffatt 1 might have ( said something of our i social experiments, even if he preferred not to discuss heavy subjects i early in the morning. But he made some atonement for this—we hope it was not accidental —by saying that | professors in their sabbatical year were supposed to travel and impiove their minds. That was why he left America and came to :New Zealand. His plans. are to catch some trout, to see Dunedin, and to meet former students and acquaintances. Which part" of this programme is for mind improvement we must leave Dunedin, the former students, and (the trout fishermen tp decide. "■ ■
