Women's Study Circle.
There was a good attendance at ths last meeting of the Women's Study, Circle. The speaker was Mrs. Clay, who gave an interesting talk on "The Way to Happiness." Mrs. Clay said extremes of excitement, emotion, and temper were.'unwis,e and destructive to happiness, and that stability-of char-1 acter, proper control, and harmonious living were essential to . happiness, Mrs. Clay answered many' questions, and was accorded a vote of thanks. Bridge Afternoon. ' A very pleasant bridge afternoon vai given recently by Mesdamcs H. Parkia and W.1 Parkin at the'latter's residence, Evans Bay Road, in honour of Miss Ena t Hanson, Oriental Bay, who is to be married shortly. The rooms were fragrant'with ''massive' bdwls-'of lovely spring'flowers,'and" a dainty afternoon, tea was -served. ■ Miss Hanßqn-:was presented with a beautiful crystal bowl, the guests heartily congratulating1 her and expressing best ~ wishes for her future happiness. Miss Hanson suitably replied. Thoso present were Mes-* dames Hanson, Cross, Drake,1 Mitchell, Lock, Butherfor'd, Leith, Miller, Ponder, (Juthrie, Elliott, Hawkcn,'Ellison, Godfrey, Young, Legatt, Southwiek, Belly Bough, Misses Hanson and Williams. A Kitchen Tea. Mrs. J. McCrorie gave- a delightful kitchen tea at her home, "Hillcroft," on Saturday afternoon, in honour of her niece, Miss Lucy Clarko,.who is to bo married next month.' Many handsome and useful presents "were received by Miss Clarke, who acknowledged her appreciation in a happy speech. Songs byJMrs. George Stark, accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Gilmore, were highly/ appreciated, and a happy Vfternoon was spent by alii." N ' '''./' B.M.S. Song Group. »> The Song Group of the British Music Society held a meeting on Friday evening at the residence of Mr. " W. M. Page> president of the society, when an interesting lecture was delivered by Mr. Stanley .Ollivcr on the. physical properties of voice production, enlarging particularly on the effect of the sinuses on tonal . quality. The title of this lecture was "Which Way Singing?" A ..hearty _vote of thanks was accorded Mr. 'Olliver at the conclusion of his lecture.' /Items" wera rendered by Miss M. Atkinson and Mrs. Davidson. During supper appreciation f'.is expressed of the action of Mr. and Irs. Page in inviting the' group to meet at their residence. A Garden Party. Many of those who have seen Mr§. Herbert's beautiful garden on Wellington. Terrace, as weir as those who hav»' not had that pleasure, will be glad to know that an opportunity will be given soon, as Mrs. Herbert has very kindly; given permission for an afternoon party to be held there under the auspices, of the National Council of Women and in aid of its funds, on Thursday, December 6. ■ There will be many attractions, and help from members of afJ filiated bodies and other friends will be greatly appreciated.
