MR. ARTHUR BLACKLOCK

Another of the old school of Wellington sportsmen and one also well known in business circles, Mr. Arthur Blaeklock, died at his residence at Seatoun yesterday. In cricket the late Mr. Blaekloek, who was 66 years of age, was a popular figure, as were also his three brothers, James, Henry, and Robert, and two nephews, J. P. and 0. P., sons of Mr. James Blaeklock. In football, too, he gained some prominence as a member of the Poneke Club, being a member of the first fifteen for about two years in the eighties. In business ho was associated in turn with Harcourt and Co., Ltd., and Sargood, Son, and Ewen, Ltd., before joining Koss and Glendining, Ltd., of which firm he hold the position of joint manager, with Mr. White Greig, until he retired some two years ago. Tho Blacklock brothers, with the exception of Henry, all gained representative honours in cricket, and Messrs. J. P. and C. P. Blacldock kept the family* name well to tho fore in cricket, J. P. following in Robert's footsteps as a New Zealand representative. It was in 1886 that the late Mr. Arthur Blaeklock represented Wellington against an Australian team, but before that he had represented Wellington with credit in interprovineial cricket. He was a member of the Midland Club, as also were his brothers, and he generally appeared as opening batsman. Ho is survived by two daughters, Mrs. McClelland (Hobart) and Mrs. Webster (Waimatc).
