RATINGS DISCHARGED

AFFAIR ON MORESBY

(Received September 17, 2.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day.

Tli'o Navy Office announced that sovpii ratings had been discharged from Mie Eoyal Australian Navy and another man sentenced to. detention for ninety days as the result of a disturbance on H.M.A.S. Moresby at Darwin on August 19. An able seaman struck a petty officer and he was disciplined. It was reported at the time, although the commander of the Moresby denied it later, that tlio offender was put in irons. As a protest some other ratings locked themselves in the mess room and refused to open the door, until the irons were removed.

The Court of Inquiry considered the action of the seven ratings who rej fused to parade for-duty when an at- j tempt was made to restore order after the disturbance, ana the punishments announced are.the- results of these inquiries.
