EX-SOLDIERS' RELIEF
CHRISTCHURCH PROBLEM
UNSATISFACTORY WORKERS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Problems confronting the employment committee of the Christcliurch Kcturncd .Soldiers' Association •. wero placed before a meeting of registered unemployed ex-soldiers today. The committee sought the men's opinion whether the roll of unemployed returned soldier's should.bo purged by removing the names' of those men who do. not give satisfaction when sent out to work, or who are .unemployable. It was stated that some men employed at 12s 6d a dav, 6s 3d of which is paid by the employer and Gs 3d by the association out of the canteen funds and other grants, did not work satisfactorily, and their answer was that they had done 6s <3d worth of labour and the other 6s 3d they considered was their own-, in any case, as all the can-teen-funds should be the property of tho returned soldiers. . It was decided after discussion that if a man were unfavourably reported upon by the employer, the employment officer and the ,omployment committee should decide whether ho should be given any further; work. , It was explained in tho * course of discussion - that those men who are not given work would bo given help on the lower scale by the benevolent committee.
