SMASH-AND-GRAB
SENTENCE ON ROBBER SYDNEY, September 7. Norman' Hardy, aged 26, was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment for the smash-and-grab robbery at Angus and Coote 's. ,•
For the second time in two months a smash-and-grab raid was made in Sydney on August 17 at Angus and Coote's jewellery store. A brick was thrown through a window and jewellery valued at £450 taken. A man dashed off through the crowd, but was stopped at the point of a revolver by a nearby shopkeeper, after which he was arrested by two detectives. •', The police stated that the man had i a tear-gas pistol, .the first ever seen in Sydney. It was,loaded with cartridges containing a chemical which, according to the police, could quite easily blind a man. .■;■'..
