STORM APPROACHING
Special forecast for Wellington:—
Moderate but freshening easterly winds..
Weather fair, mild, and hazy at first, but cloud increasing and rain probable by tomorrow.
An anticyclone still extends across New Zealand south of New Plymouth and East Cape, but a deep cyclonic depression is advancing this way across tho northern part of tho Tasman Sea, and its effects are already in evidence in northern districts. Hence the general weather forecast issued at noon today is for easterly to northerly winds which will be strong and reach gale force north of Kawhia and East Cape. Elsewhere winds will be light to moderate in force but will increase generally. The weather in tho North Island will be cloudy to overcast and misty. Ham may be expected in the Auckland province and will gradually c/,end southward, with heavy falls and Hooding in tho North Auckland and Bay of Plenty areas. In tho South Island the weather will be fair'to fine at first, but within the next twenty-four hours or £>o tho rain will have extended to tho northern and western districts. Temperatures will bo mild. Tho advance of tho disturbance referred to above has caused strong easterly to north-easterly winds to prevail in the Auckland province, reaching gale force at times. The rain has already .been, widespread in that urea, with somo heavy fulls in places. The remainder of the Dominion, however, with the exception of i'oveaux Strait where there havo been a few showers, has had fair to fine,weather during the last twenty-four hours, and winds have been light to moderate and mainly from some easterly quarter.
Tho weather in Auckland yesterday was dull and threatening, with a strong north-easterly wind. Main began to fall there last night, and it was still raining this morning with a'norty-ca'st-crly gale. Wellington had a fine day with 9.8 hours of bright sunshine. Tho wind was a light northerly. The sun this morning was shining through a thin layer of cloud, the wind being a light easterly. Christehnrch had a calm and warm day yesterday. The afternoon was cloudy, but the night was cold and frosty. The weather this morning was "dull with a light north-easterly wind.
Dunedin had fine and sunny weather, what little wind there was being from the south-west. The night there also was' frosty, and the weather'this morning was clear and windless.
