WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION

OPENING OF SEASON

The annual meeting of the Wellington Amateur Rowing Association was held last evening, when September 29 was fixed as the opening date for the local rowing season. The season will be opened with the Redding Shield Regatta, the 6ame programme of events being observed this year as last year. The regatta will take place on the southerly course on September 29, or, if the weather is too rough for rowing, on the northerly course on October | (i—Lhe Pctone Club's opening day. The j events on the Redding Shield programme will be: Open double sculls, maiden fours, open fours, junior fours, youths' fours, and open paiis. Entries will close on September l'J and no late entries will be permitted. MEETING OF DOMINION COUNCIL. The secretary ot the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association (Mr. A. D. Bayteikl) wrote advising J,hut the annual meeting of delegates would be held on October 18. llie Auckland Association had made application tor the championship regatta to be held at Auckland on February 2, ISJ3S, and the iMarlborough Association had requested the right to conduct the "eights" on Easter Saturday next year, as also had Wellington. -. The meeting decided to support the Marlboroiigh Association in a remit to be submitted to the annual meeting of the X.Z.A.R.A. in connection with the classification of welter juniors. The remit aims at allowing welter juniors who have won races in two seasons to compete in open junior class. Delegates from Wellington to the annual meeting of the N.Z.A.R.A. are to be requested to bring forward the 'question of the various associations including in their programmes such races as are rowed at championship regattas -in the senior class. It was decided to nominate Mr. F. W. Mothes as vice-president of the New Zealand Council, and Messrs. R. G. Duncan and C. J. Mac Gibbon for positions on the council.

A motion was passed thanking Mr. J. E. Scnnlon, the retiring secretary and treasurer, for his services to the association during the past two years. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, the Rt. Hon. Sir Francis Bell; vice-president, Mr. F. W. Mothes; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. J. Mac Gibbon; trustees. Messrs. M. A. Turner and C. J. Mac Gibbon; committee. Messrs. M. A. Turner. C. J. MacGibbon, S. I. Kidd, R. G. Duncan, T. S. Slinn. A. E. White, R. J. Tregtirtha, G. L. Riley. and H. J. Luke; auditors, Messrs. Clarke and Mullins; delegates to the New Zealand ■ Amateur Rowing Association. Messrs. R. G. Duncan and C. J. Mac Gibbon.
