SYDNEY SERIES OPENS

(By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, September 3. The wool-selling season opened in Sydney today to crowded galleries. The market was fully equal to Brisbane closing rates, but. compared with the opening rates of last season in Sydney, best-grown wools showed a fall of 20 per cent., while in the case of average, to inferior descriptions the decline ranged from 20 to 25 per cent. The highest price of the day for greasy merino fleece was 17d for five bales from Mandurama.

There was good competition, mainly from Japan and Yorkshire, with strong support from local mills, and a moderate demand /from the Continent. .

The offerings'totalled 8965 bales, of which 6670 were sold at : auction; also 2570 bales, were sold privately.
