WELLINGTON JUST BEAT AUCKLAND
HAWKE'S BAY RETAIN RANFURLY SHIELD
In the round of representative Rugby football matches throughout the Dominion on Saturday local interest centred mainly in the match between Auckland and Wellington at Athletic Park. The visitors Avorke'd their way solidly to a ten-point lead, but after that Wellington recorded sufficient points to have a winning margin of three. Strenuous play between the forwards was the main feature of play, apart from some occasional flashes by the backs. Events elsewhere included the deciding of Taranaki's challenge for the Ranfurly Shield. Hawke's Bay easily withstood the challenge, and now meet Auckland's challenge next Saturday. Canterbury had an easy win over Nelson. Maori representatives played for the Prince of Wales Cup at Rotorua, and this match had a tragic sequel in the death of J. Ruru, the ex-Hawke's Bay and Wellington representative.
