TRAGIC EPISODE
DEATHS IN GANGES FLOODS

CALCUTTA, September 2.
The Ganges floods were responsibli for two deaths in tragic circumstances. The inhabitants, of several villages near Chapra, in the Bihar area, threatened with devastation by the. floods, attempted x to cut the railway embankment? to allow the water to escape into the surrounding country. British and Indian Magistrates and police officers tried to prevent them, and -were attacked by an angry mob of five hundred, armed with speaks and sticks. The police were forced to fire, injuring several, two fatally. The situation is now under control. Many were arrested.
