TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIP
FOR ACCOUNTANCY STUDENTS
Ail important question discussed at the annual meeting of the Institute- of Accountants was that.; of establishing a travelling scholarship for the purpose of enabling students showing promise of exceptional ability to proceed overseas for experience in accountancy. The matter was raised about eighteen months ago by Mr. J. ■.. S. Butler, of Hastings. It was decided that such a scholarship should be instituted, and that, it should.be awarded once evcrv two years. . The^seholarship will'bo.of the value of £150 per annum, the conditions being that the holder is to pursuo his studies abroad with a view to his return to the Dominion and remaining for a period of at least three years, thus tending to advance the standard of accounting in New Zealand.. The scholarship will be open to menibers of the institute who are not less than 21 and not more than 30 years of age, and will be tenable, for two years. In awarding the scholarship j the committee will take into account all relative matters, including the applicant's' personality, the progress he has already made in his studies, and the extent and variety of his practical experience and adaptability. . . In order to facilitate the progress of the 'successful students, negotiations have been entered into with the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Incorporated Societyoosf s Accountants and Auditors of London. Tho Institute of Chartered Accountants has replied, stating that the committee is. iv sympathy 'with the scholarship suggestion and would do everything, possible, when the time arrived for action, to find offices into which scholarship winners might he introduced for the training period; '
