AN ENJOYABLE DANCE
A delightful dance was given recently by Mrs. F. W. Powell, at her home, Rowan Brae,. Karori, - for her daughter, Miss Joan Powell. The entrance hall .and the lounge,1 where a cheerful log fire was burning, were arranged for dancing, and presented a very gay appearance. A delicious home-made buffet supper was served in the dining-room, where the colour scheme was matched with bowls and tall vases of flowering currant, and made a very pretty setting for the frocks of the guests: The conservatory, drawing-room, and suiiroom, -were used for, sitting out, and cool drinks and ices served in the latter were greatly appreciated during the evening. The drawiiig-rootri was taste- 1 fully Arranged with quantities of spring flowers, violets, and daffodils toning -well with the mauve and primrose colouring; of the 'room* A pleasant surprise lator in the evening'was. the arrival of Mr. Robert K. Burns, one of the two American University debaters who are: touring tho world.„,• . The guests • were received by Mrs. Powell, wearing a frock of black-satin under a black chiffon velvet coatee. Miss Joan Powell wore a frock of;bluish" green silk crepe, with a gold lame j bodice, and matching godets in the j skirt. Among the guests were the following: Captain and Mrs. Stanley Allen (tho latter in wine georgette and lace). Mrs. C. W. Tromewau (black lace); Misses Phyllis Ryan, Ranee Miller, .Gwen Hanscll, Mar.iorie and Elsie Gibbons, Lois La Trobe, Mary Knox Gihnor, Pat Martin, Muriel Allen, Dorothy Souter, Pat Harle, Exla Goodman, Zona Hoi den, Erice Goblc, Patricia Marshall, Shirley Donne, Peggy Kain, Valeric Can-, Nan Welch, Nancy Roberts,' Gwen da Norman Jones: and Messrs.
