HIGHER AWARD WAGES
GENERAL ORDER SOUGHT
The desire amongst trades unions lor legislation amending the Arbitration Act so as to allow the Arbitration Court to ' make a general order increasing wages under awards appears -likely to result in further representations of -the. advisability of > sucii a" course to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Labour. Recently the' employers met and expressed tho opinion that the time was notan opportune one. for an increase of wages, but a' Dominioi-wida movement, which will be-initiated in; Christchurch on Monday by the Hon. T. Bloodworth, with, the objectt>fpre- . vailing on the Government to take some action in the matter, is expected to be supported by all trades, unions. It is probable that a deputation arranged by the Trades and Labour Council wiil shortly wait upon the Prime Minister, and Minister of Labour in connection; with. the;»prp2osed legislation. ,
