DAY IN PARLIAMENT
IMPREST SUPPLY BILL
Apart from voting supply for the next two months, Parliament did very little work yesterday. Partly becauso members wished to bo in good form for the debate on the second Imprest Bill of the session, arid partly because a number of members were absent from the House, possibly becauso of the football match at Athletic Park, minor matters only wero taken during the afternoon. Local Bills were taken, and five on the Order Paper were put through their second reading and committee stages and passed, and amendments made by the Legislative Council to two others wero agreed to. When the Imprest Supply Bill (Np. 2) was introdiiced at 7.30 p.m. Opposition members initiated a discussion on unemployment, but the topic of debate changed later to "the decision of the Government Kailways Board to close down the State timber mill at Mamaku. Members from both sides of the- House raised strong objection to the board's riction, and eventually the Prime Minister agreed to reopen the matter -with tlio board at the earliest opportunity.
After passing the Imprest Bill tlic llouso adjourned ill 12.25 a.m. until this morning.
