GROCERS CONVICTED

' Robert Roulston was charged with selling a package of sugar short of the quantity demanded, and with having in his possession for sale packages which did not bear the true weight.
Tlio Inspector of Weights and Measures (Mr. B. A. C. Hcrepath) stated that the Department had received complaints concerning short weight at Roulsfcon's shop. Ho had gone into the shop and bought a. 21b package of sugar which lie hind found was. loz short in weight. Similar packages had also proved short. On the first charge Roulston was fined £3, and on the second he was ordered to pay the uost«. Stanley Park, n grocer, was "charged with having- in his possession for sale packages which did not bear the true woight. He entered a plea of inadvertently guilty. The/ Inspector of Weights and Measures stated that he had weighed a number of packages of sugar made up on Park's premises. "They were all deficient by quantities varying from 2 to 4 drams in each package," he said. "None of the packages was either correct weight or, over-weight; they were all under-weight." He had weighed twenty-four packages altogether, he added.
In reply to a question Park' said that tho packages had baen done up by a boy whom lie had employed. Since the matter had arisen he had gone out of business and was now on relief work.
The Magistrate convicted Win and ordered him to pay; the costs. ■..'•■
