AMERICAN TEAM

TO VISIT AUSTRALIA

Mr. George • Jacobus, president of the American Professional Golfers* Association, interviewed by the Australian Press Association, representative, emphatically denied reports that no American golfers had definitely decided to participate in the Melbourne centenary championships. He said that a team would positively be sent, and fi\re, including Paul Ruiiyan, had definitely been selected and had accepted. A sixth would be named within a week, by which timo the list would be published.

Mr. Jacobus added that he was authorised and had already niado tentative bookings for tho team to sail from San Pedro by the Mariposa on October 17.

He said he understood that Sarnzen would be unable to make tho trip, due to professional engagements.

Kirkwood had not been selectod by the Professional Golf Association committee and whether he would make the trip on his own initiative was not known, but it was thought unlikely.

Olin Dutra, tho open champion, had been invited, .but was unable to participate in the trip. Physical ailments suffered at the time ho won the championship prevented him. Mr. Jacobus asked the Australian Press Association to quote him as saying that the team selectod would be an .exceptionally strong one.
